Drama Review: Surplus Princess Episode 7
We have yet another side plot line, we may or may not have found who our true OTP is, and another love triangle--well possible love triangle. This is episode didn't have a whole lot going on, but someone's secret was just revealed and it is major.
Episode 7 was the aftermath of Ha Ni overhearing Shi Kyung sticking up for Jin Ah by not refuting the rumor that they are dating. I already said in the last review that I did not agree with how he went about it even though I understand he was simply making a statement. Now he has to deal with Ha Ni avoiding his phone calls and it does seem to bother him so much that he gets her address from the front desk. The silver lining in this is watching Jin Ah's look of disappointment since she knows Shi Kyung only sees her as a friend/colleague and nothing more. It's beginning to backfire since she knows absolutely nothing about why Shi Kyung is acting all strange and not seeming like a total workaholic lately. You can tell she's lost and knows he's going after Ha Ni, her plan didn't work. Was it worth it to be the source of office gossip? I'm starting to think no, right?
Shi Kyung is beginning to show signs of him liking Ha Ni, which is nice since she's had a crush on him for so long, but is it just curiosity? Who knows since they haven't been able to actually sit down and talk things out. Their development is st a standstill right now and I am not sure where they are headed at the moment. They continuously have misunderstandings and you can only have so much of this so I hope this changes in episode 8 because they both have a mutual attraction, but is it enough to call it true love? We'll see.
Hyun Myung has begun to show some signs of liking Ha Ni, his face grows colder at the mention of Shi Kyung and he certainly didn't like seeing her being sad over her heartbreak. As for now, we only see them as good friends and confidants, they've seen each other's most vulnerable moments and have shown to be there for one another. When Hyun Myung thought Ha Ni only had 2 months to live, he went out of his way to make her final days better. That's true friendship in its finest so I hope that even if they don't end up as a couple then their friendship does remain intact.
The great reveal was kind of unexpected and totally hilarious to me. When Ji Yong and Big are convinced that Sun Kyu is the elusive "contest king", they enlist Hye Young to help them follow him out one night since he's been leaving periodically with vague answers. What they find isn't exactly as "cool" as they thought and they find out that usually quiet Sun Kyu is a Crayon Pop fan and appears to be a well respected Cutie (Crayon Pop's fanclub). He spots Hye Young's disappointed face and seems to be bothered by it, but lets her leave with Ji Yong and Big behind her. Then after Crayon Pop leaves, we find out that he is rich and is the contest king that the two roommates were looking for. Poor Hye Young was far too disappointed to stick around and see this. I can understand why she seemed so sad. She thought she knew all there was to know about Sun Kyu and then to see someone who usually doesn't show much emotion all of a suddenly fanboying around for a group must have been a great shock. I hope this doesn't cause her to think lower of him because he has a secret obsession with a k-pop group, she really cares about him and he seems to have been upset by her reaction. So, will we see Sun Kyu pursuing Hye Young more? I hope so because I want to see him become jealous over her being closer to Big.
Ha Ni was very heartbroken about Shi Kyung, but with her older brother coming in and telling her to act like she would in the sea it gained her confidence back. Seeing her brother there was pretty funny, but it was nice to see how much he cared about her. He brought pearls so she could buy something nice for herself and threatened Jin Ah. Now that we've seen her brother, I wonder when we'll see the rest of her family especially her parents. Family and friendship seem to be a running theme in this show so maybe it's less about romance and more about finding family and true friends.
