Pretty Man/Bel Ami Episode 6 Recap
Late again. Sorry guys. Real life kept calling me. I had the recap itself done, just didn't get a chance to post til now. Well at least you'll have episode 6 fresh in your mind before you watch episode 7.
Episode 6
Ma Te realizes David's button in Bo Tong. He walks over and tells both of them they worked hard, David says it was nothing and Bo Tong only suffered. She gives a cute laugh before Ma Te he has to take her away to talk to her, but Bo Tong just says to say it now. He leans in closer and tells her let's go, puts his arm around her and leads her out. At this point, I'm not sure if he likes her is just all weird because she's giving another guy attention. I think I'll go with the latter. So what exactly did Ma Te want? He gives Bo Tong her reward of 10 pictures for them selling the socks out. During the "photo shoot", Ma Te notes that she close to David, she just nods yes. He then asks if that doesn't make her feel inadequate in front of other employees. She says no then maybe he should as well since he gets intimate with women for money. Ooh! Next she wants a picture of him licking his lips, he does it and she says never mind it looks cheap. Hong Ran walks by and sees him.Ma Te is taking a walk with Electric Fairy, thanking her for her help with his questions. She says that hey already know the answers. He looks confused, she explains that people already know the answers when they come see her. She says even with Jaek Hee, who thought she made money from what she selected. She only agreed with her, same goes with Ma Te. She stops and tells him not to find her anymore. Electric Fairy knows he sees her button to her heart and asks him what he sees. He answers that she loves him, she tells him she couldn't see her own button. He wants to know why, because people can't control their own heart. She gives him a parting gift and says to only open it when the path becomes too difficult. He thanks her with a hug and they part ways.
Later, Ma Te goes to visit his mother's memorial, he sounds very proud to finally make his own money. He's surprised to see Bo Tong here, she says she didn't know he'd be here. She brought red undergarments, but he already bought some[for his mother]. She says he's really matured. Outside she says she won't get to see him much anymore since the sock thing is over, he says let's go as far as we can. She is nervous and says her body and heart are both ready. She sort of deflates when he mentions money, but agrees with him. She tells him that if he can sell as much as as his looks then he'll make a lot. She suggests he turn his face into money.
Ma Te is sitting with Yu Ra and asks about In Joong. Yu Ra states that she's the best when it comes to insurance, her husband is working abroad and they have no children. Yu Ra warns him again that it won't be easy, her pet peeve is gossip and that alone can make her keep someone at bay. Bo Tong then calls him asking if they can have a congratulatory party with beef.
Next thing we see is them grilling meat. Everyone is standing around the grill minus Ma Te, who is sitting. He asks Bo Tong to grill some other meat, apparently David has no skills in this area. But he then turns and asks him what shoud his next step be. David wonders why he's asking him for and Ma Te says he's an expert. David says to reinvest and sell more before copies pop up in the market, but they've already sold all the ones they had. Ma Te says they will just make more. Bo Tong doesn't want to since it took them forever to sell them the first time and it makes her nauseous thinking about it. Kook Seung also mentions they'll need a place to make them including employees, David suggests they join with another factory and sell with them. Then the fire rises again and Bo Tong is accidentally burned. David runs inside to get a first aide kit, Ma Te attempts to get something else for her but she says it's alright since David went to get something. His face looks as if he can't comprehend what she's saying and picks her up over his shoulder and runs out saying simple medicine won't stop it from scarring. Kook Seung looks surprised and by the time David comes out, they're already gone.
On their way back, Bo Tong says that she could have just put a band aid on, then Ma Te asks what the left hand does. Bo Tong hilariously says in a matter of fact way that it assists the right hand. Ma Te looks speechless and says that a wedding ring goes on the left hand, it would be heartbreaking if there was a scar. Really? Cue to Bo Tong imagining him proposing to her. Haha! He tells her to set up another meeting with In Joong. Once he walks away, she laughs saying he must be embarrassed from showing his true feelings then gets giddy while asking herself if she was just proposed to.
The next day, David and Bo Tong visit a sock factory and are told it wouldn't be possible because it's too much of a risk. While eating ramyun in a convenience store, David reassures Bo Tong that they will find something since they did the impossible before. She says they should find a factory that has affection for their socks instead of looking at the numbers. David suggests a sock meeting for those who really love socks.
Later, Bo Tong goes to see In Joong and begs for her help this time. If she fails to get a meeting with her, she'll get fired. She puts on the full puppy dog face and In Joong agrees.
Hong Ran tells her assistant to report about Ma Te's company separately. Looks like Iron Lady is up to something. Yu Ra is watching older news reports about MG Group like the second son being arrested for tax evasion and another one stepping down before being found dead. She's watching these news stories regarding Hong Ran's succession to her current position. Yu Ra mentions that it must have been a bloody battle and wonders how Hong Ran won over her siblings for the company. I do wonder too.
Next we see David and Bo Tong decorating her room in animal wallpaper. She's still calling him Assistant Manager and he tells her to call him David. She's thinking of a way to address him: 'David-ssi?' 'David-nim?' He says David Oppa, but she says it's too weird. She likes calling him Assistant Manager and he jokes Assistant Manager Oppa? They're too busy laughing that they didn't notice Ma Te come in. He looks around and says he may have to pay an admission fee since it looks like a zoo. David mutters that's because he has no innocence. Bo Tong wonders why he came by and asks about the meeting, she says she sent him a text about it. He insists she didn't and she starts wondering if she did or, she knows she did. He keep emphasizing that she didn't and she goes along with it saying she never sent it. Before he leaves, he remarks that her style is tacky, but Bo Tong thinks it's pretty.
In Joong walks into the restaurant and is automatically smitten with Ma Te, but manages not to show it. As she's introducing herself, she gives him a business card and he eyes her wallet carefully. As she sits, she guesses he's close to Electric Fairy and tells him that if he's an important person to her then the same will be for her. She agrees to help though he still looks a bit uneasy. As they are eating, the chef comes out to greet In Joong apologizing for not coming out sooner even though she comes in everyday. She tells him that his food is enough, then looks at his face saying he doesn't look too good. He mentions his mother has been sick and is need of surgery, but it's going to take time even though he's looked into several hospitals. He's worried she may not endure it due to her age. He tells In Joong the doctor he was speaking to. She looks as worried as he does. He looks over and says sorry to Ma Te for telling his story like that. He turns to In Joong and asks if he can make them something, he's grateful to her for having her Ladies Club meeting there. She politely declines and he notes he hasn't see the chief in a couple of months. In Joong just stays the elders of the club are scary. The chef bows and leaves, In Joong excuses herself to make a phone call. It's to her husband. She's asking him about his brother-in-law and a hospital, Ma Te looks on curiously. Is this why she has so many good connections?
And we are at the sock party! Bo Tong and David are around some socks enthusiasts and someone has come with a framed pair of Hans Christian Andersen's socks. Then they start their club chant and Bo Tong joins them. The leader loves Bo Tongs decorated toe socks and gives her his card to his sock factory.
Hong Ran's minion (I don't care to find out his name, if he has one) has come to report on Ma Te's company and he's surprised when she agrees to leave them the time slot. She has something up her sleeve, she's smirking.
In Joong calls Ma Te to meet her at a hospital and he goes with a gift for her. He's sitting with her waiting for a doctor who performed the chef's mom's surgery. She's just here to thank him. He gives her the card wallet saying he noticed her other one was worn out. Then the doctor comes out and apologizes for keeping her waiting, now he has to go. She says she's just here to say thank you and gives him a fountain pen by a Japanese artisan. She says she doesn't know how to use it and has heard he's a collector. Ma Te is watching this with wide eyes. After the doctor leaves, Ma Te wonders why she didn't give it to him before and she says given before: A bribe, but given after is a gift. He says that's the first rule in networking, she says no it isn't. You need to have an interest deep enough to find out about that person. He has potential since none of her employees know about her wallet. She also declines his offer for coffee, he then thinks back to Yu Ra's warning about In Joong's hate for gossip.
When Ma Te stops by David and Bo Tong's, he finds them on the computer. He asks if they found a factory, they both say no, no one is responding. But Bo Tong mentions (while facing David) that they did meet someone who owns a small factory. David thinks that's the only place who will help, Ma Te suggests finding the guy's Facebook page. David says to go through a bog and then they find it. Ma Te is side eyeing them as Bo Tong compliments David. The find his page and see how much he likes socks then his love for Blood Sausage Soup. Bo Tong sighs that she's sick of it since her mom is always boiling it. David asks why since that's the best soup he's had. This gets Ma Te's attention, who wonders what he's talking about. Bo Tong casually says (without looking up from the computer) David had some when he came to pick her up. Bo Tong walks Ma Te outside and asks her does she just become friendly with anyone when she tells him she's going with David the next day to the sock factory. Ma Te asks for her to bring some of her mom's Blood Sausage Soup tomorrow, why can't he have some if David already did. Ha! He's so jelly!!
At home around 1AM, Mom and Dae Shik are in the process of making the soup. Dae Shik asks why they're up so late and Mom says that Bo Tong told her David wanted some in the morning. I love how she lied about who really wanted the soup.
The next morning, David and Bo Tong arrive at the sock factory determined to not make this the 39th place that rejected him. In the owner's office, Bo Tong hands him a sample and he immediately drawn to them, calling it a lovely sock. He wants to think of a name, but David tells him it's a cleaning sock. Haha He has them thrown out then they look up to see Ma Te in shorts sporting his socks. ma Te apologizes to the man for his employees, he shows off Bo Tong's creativity with her stocking made into a handbag. He stops her from speaking too much about the origins of the stocking. He gets all dramatic, but that sells the man on working with them. Ma Te brings out the soup for the man to eat, he says it's the best he's had. Ma Te gives David this 'This is show its done look', he's busy showing off his skills he learned like 2 days ago. Later we see Bo Tong hugging a giant wall picture of Ma Te. Eerrr odd scene choice. Ma Te gets a call to meet with someone from MG.
At home, David is playing guitar and Bo Tong is very fascinated with it. He promises to teach her. Hee. It's funny since IU plays guitar already. OMG. David really has fallen for Bo Tong hasn't he? Poor boy.
Ma Te is at Droptop Cafe, this is where his meeting with MG will be. Yu Ra finds it odd that he's not meeting them in an office and in walks Miss Bitchy herself, Hong Ran. Yu Ra excuses herself to get coffee. Hong Ran tells him that she'll give him his time slot ob one condition: He must sell $400,000 or else he has to compensate for the 40% of his profit he owes. Ma Te agrees, but on his condition that MG has no interference and they use the same hosts as last time. She agrees with it even putting her company's name on the line. Ruh-roh. After Mommy Dearest leaves, Yu Ra tell him that he may have fallen into a trap. He says they just have to succeed. Ma Te doesn't know that Yu Ra has made her cafe a collateral in the deal.
Bo Tong is busy packing the socks and we see that Ma Te named the company "Bo Tong Company" aka Average/Ordinary Company. She thought it was a bad idea since she's like his (see: eccentric or not normal) and her mom's restaurant is failing. He's made up his mind and the sock loving ahjussi likes it.
