Pretty Man/Bel Ami Episode 5 Recap

I did it again, I put myself on a ship that will never set sail. It's a sad day when I love David to bits, but know he will always be friend zoned by Bo Tong. I hope he gets a happy ending, someone this sweet needs someone who will truly like him and all his quirkiness. I also have to say how gorgeous Han Chae Young is in this drama.

Episode 5

  Ma Te and Yu Ra are inside drinking coffee and he wonders who made her cry. She asks him how it was spending all that time without his father. She tells him that Hong Ran is planning on sending her 6 year old daughter abroad to study. He just says Hong Ran is scary while Yu Ra apologizes for making him worry, but she had no where else to go. Ma Te tells her that he'll find both of their places soon and gets up to give her more coffee. As she leaves, she has a smirk on her face while checking her makeup, her mascara smeared. As she gets on the elevator, Yu Ra says that Ma Te better keep up.

  Bo Tong is at their restaurant grilling meat and drinking soju while crying about seeing Ma Te and Yu Ra hug. She scream how can friends hug each other. Her mom comes in and smacks her asking why she's drinking. Mom says the business is doing bad and she's like this. If she can't earn money then go get married. Bo Tong asks if she's wishing her misery, but Mom tells her she's the reason behind her stress. Bo Tong declares that she'll live alone though Mom tells her she needs some skills for that. Bo Tong mentions she got hired by a company that provides room and board. Mom asks what kind of company that is, but Bo Tong says she doesn't know and passes out. 

 The next day, Mom is practically beating Bo Tong to wake her up to go to work and she finally moves after a while. Mom wants to know about the company who hired her, Bo Tong simply says it's a company with a future. Her mother then asks if it's like living in dorms and Bo Tong slowly just says yes. Mom then tells her to hurry and pack. After her mom leaves, Bo Tong calls David, who's making himself coffee, is the monthly rental still available. It's hilarious when you see his excitement, but he calms down and tells her yes. She informs him she is rethinking of this offer and he says she should act on this while she's thinking about it. She says she'll pack and call him back. Someone is happy.

Electric Fairy is saying she wish's they were here in times like this, asking what should she do. We hear your thoughts now: "Being able to read thoughts is a curse. To see their minds, I resented people as a whole. I can't have friends or date." Ma Te is different. he's pure without pretenses. She wants him and doesn't want to manipulate her feelings so she wants to help him achieve his goal. She then calls Hong Ran and says she should know why she's calling. Hong Ran tells her that it seems she's dating Ma Te now. She says she can do whatever she wants, but the food stand was the beginning. Electric Fairy is upset, but keeps her composure and notes Hong Ran's anxiousness by saying knocking her opponent's horse isn't the only way to win, she needs to protect her own if she's skilled enough. She hangs up and you can see the unease on Hong Ran's face. Guess Iron Lady is anxious like Yu Ra said. Electric Fairy then calls someone for chrysanthemum tea.

David ends up stopping by Bo Tong's place and asks for some rice while she's still speechless. Mom and bro are staring at him with mom saying she doesn't know if the food is to his taste. David says he was expecting galbi, but blood sausage soup awesome.  Dae Shik then asks what David's relationship is with Bo Tong which earns him a slap from her. Mom just tells him they're always like that. Dae Shik wants to know if he really works with Bo Tong and if she's moving to a dorm. It's a yes to the first one while Bo Tong is signalling for him to say yes to the second question. He says that since she lives so far and she may be working late, this made sense. Little bro then goes as oppa-like and wonders if this ins't living together masquerading as a dorm life. Bo Tong grabs her brother and throws him, Mom is virtually unfazed by this and asks David if he has a girlfriend. He asks if the questions can come slower so he can eat. She quickyl says yes. Bo Tong gets him out before more questions can be asked. 

Bo Tong officially moves in with a couple of suitcases that David offers to carry. Seeing the room, she wonders if he really isn't going to use his house. He says he enjoys GlamPing (Glamorous Camping) and laughs, but she isn't smiling. She's kidding and tells him she's envious. He says this is the beginning of thier partnership. At work, David's boss is wodnering which nail file to use and settles on one before sitting down with David. Chief isn't too confident with the socks so David offers to resign if they don't sale. 

Ma Te meets Bo Tong at MG and asks why she isn't answering her phone, she tells him that she forgot it. Cue David walking in to give her the phone, he says she left it on his bed. She says oh and apologizes for making him go all the way back home for it. David notices Ma Te who goes all big brother on him saying she hasn't dated anyone yet and if he talks like that then people will misconstrue the idea that they spent the night together and left from the same place. Bo Tong says it's true, they stayed at the same place last night and left together. She looks to David for confirmation. Ma Te is shocked, but David throws his words back at him. Bo Tong hasn't dated yet and people might misunderstand. He says that Ma Te has known her for years yet he doesn't know what kind of woman she is. Hahaha I am DYING right now. He says let's start the meeting and tells them his boss isn't budging & tells Ma Te he's not one to like to be treated so don't try it. Ma Te just says he'll take care of it. Afterwards, Bo Tong tries to explain her reasons for moving with David but Ma Te isn't paying much attention. He's trying to think of a way to win over the chief then he turns to her and says that the world is dangerous and she doesn't know the kind of man David is and she's renting a room from him. Electric Fairy calls him and he walks off to take the call. She's sad because she thought she'd be praised for getting such a cheap room. Then she figured that maybe he's just jealous and she gets all giddy again. Goodness, I love her.

Ma Te meets with Electric Fairy who sees he's been busy lately. He tells her he's been selling socks because he has a goal he's trying to achieve, but it's been really hard. Miss Fairy says doesn't he just need to know the terms of sales, but he says he needs to know how to change a person's mind. Fairy thinks for a second and tells him to wait until she's closed since she's nearly done. He says he'll wait since she asked him out on a date. They go out for a walk later where she explains her family situation a little more. Both of her parents can't speak nor talk and instead of feeling the need to be protected, she decided to protect them since she knew they were different. She says that it was difficult at first to figure out what they wanted and needed, but eventually she could just see it. He looks confused as she says that everyone has a button that can influence them. Now he sits alone thinking about it and becomes frustrated. He calls Bo Tong to see where she is, but then stops himself saying he's not worried.
David and Bo Tong are eating dinner and trying to think of ways to help win over his boss. David has the idea to have Ma Te coincidentally run into the chief at one if his weekly appointments. Electric Fairy is sitting at home, bored out of her wits when Ma Te texts her about on-site learning.  Bo Tong then calls Ma Te and tells him that she left home and is living in David's house. He threatens to expose her to her mother and she begins to yell, but calms down. She asks to go somewhere, but he says he's going to a cafe Cheondamdong. Hilariously Bo Tong starts doing a search on cafes that only pretty boys would frequent.

Ma Te meets Electric Fairy at said cafe who gets right down to explaining the button thing. She says everyone has a hidden button, then she begins pointing out different patrons and their buttons. She tells him he has to name them with care because it isn't that easy to find them. He has to observe the body because it can speak the truth that the heart tries to hide. In order to test him, she tells him to find the button a man on a date. As he's analyzing the man, he hears Bo Tong's voice and she's there in the cafe. Electric Fairy eyes her and her many buttons, but stays calm. She's upset because she's trying to sell the socks while he's on a date with a heinous woman. He tells her to be quiet, but Fairy leaves instead opting to take a cab. He wants to follow Fairy woman, but Bo Tong tells him not to. He asks her how she knew where he was and she did research due to today's society. She tells him that she's here because the chief has his weekly appointment today. It's at a nail salon and the nail technician is in awe of "virgin cuticles" then the chief walks in and sits with another technician. They're all chatty when Ma Te tries analyze him and then gets frustrated when he thinks the man is gay. He gets up after the lady accidentally puts too much lotion on his hand and walks directly to the chief. He takes his hand and say he wants to mesh with him. At first it looks like the man is enjoying it, but he gets up and whisper to Ma Te that he should take his antics to Itaewon and says that he likes girls. The entire salon starts laughing and the chief tells him to get out. Omigosh! So embarrassing yet hilarious!
At home, Ma Te is trying to figure out what went wrong. His blonde friend is also there with a suitcase saying he's going to Seoul Station to serve the homeless hyungs and tells Ma Te to join him since they all served together. Next thing we know, they're both in David's backyard/living room/kitchen with Ma Te telling them that blondie is now there to help. He doesn't hesitate to take a stab at David's living arrangement, but David knows that's not why he's there. Ma Te says that he's here to see how 'his' Bo Tong is, this gets her all excited but he pushes her away. Blondie has a name, it's Chang Kook Seung and Ma Te tells them that brainstorming works better in numbers. Bo Tong questions this reminding him that he said to wait until he meets with the chief. David then says that the chief was in a bad mood today about something that happened at the nail salon. He turns to Bo Tong and says that the man was in a bad mood because some guy came in the shop and hit on him. He says the boss would have hit the guy and we see him and Bo Tong both laughing their butts off not knowing that the man in question is Ma Te. David asks if he really met with him, but Bo Tong sees the suitcase and Ma Te offers up David's place (without asking) for Kook Seung to stay. David slowly agrees while Bo Tong opposes, but he's gone before anyone else can object. Well things are going to awkward. Now we see him lurking outside of Electric Fairy's place when she calls him, she lets him in. He sits down and she asks him if he can see her button, but he can't then asks if she can see his. She does telling him that when she pushes it he may want to kiss her and then makes a phone call to a Kim In Joong. He thinks it's joke and wonders why a cellphone. The woman she calls is trying on shoes and they chit chat for bit before Fairy asks if she's selling socks the woman says no so Miss Fairy tells her she sees socks knocking at her heart. This gets Ma Te's attention and he sits up. The woman is very interested and we can see she relies on Electric Fairy as much as Jaek Hee did. She thanks Fairy for thinking of her. Electric Fairy tells him about the woman she called, she has many connections and will be good. Ma Te leans in and says she pushed his button and gives her a nose kiss. Not sure if it's an aww or whatever moment.

The next day, Yu Ra thanks Fairy over tea for leading Ma Te to Kim In Joong. I am guessing she's woman #3. Electric Fairy says that it may be dangerous sending him there and guesses Ma Te is her new recruit. Yu Ra tells her that he will help her face her karma. Fairy lady tells Yu Ra her fortune: She's been able to guess many people's futures, btu there's something stronger than what the gods inform her. Yu Ra's affection will protect her daughter. This make Yu Ra smile. Later or something, Ma Te comes into Yu Ra's cafe and she tells hi, he heard of Kim In Joong faster than what she thought, he correctly guesses this is woman number 3 he must learn from. Yu Ra says she's his next mission. We get a look at In Joong walking through a department store chatting with all the sales people and then speaks with a chairman. Yu Ra explains that she's the queen of connections and in order to be powerful, he must have people with power on his side. Though she warns him that she isn't an easy woman. Ma Te tells Bo Tong his plan to sell the socks and she has to go see In Joong and emphasize MG Home Shopping.

Then we see her waltz right into In Joong's job and begins to take out the socks, a woman attempts to take her out when In Joong remembers Electric Fairy's fortune and speaks with Bo Tong in private who plays it up saying that these socks were almost sold at MG Home Shopping and says it's hard. She then starts doing a demonstration on the table. Again she mentions MG. In Joong asks if she knows Electric Fairy, but Bo Tong is confused and asks "Electric..?" She tells Bo Tong she may be able to help and asks her to be her distant cousin. Bo Tong (and me) look up in confusion. Later on, she's throwing a box of stuff out when she sees an old watering can and picks it up, that's when David calls her to tell her the business is now registered as subcontract. They can now broadcast. Cue happy, money making music and Ma Te staring confidently at the socks.
At the broadcast station, Bo Tong is taking the boxes out of the car when David comes with a cart wondering why she's doing it by herself. He tells her there are two men there to do this, she says that Ma Te is too tired from driving. Ummm Dude, really? David then quips that maybe he should find a nursing home. Ha! Way to annoy Ma Te who then takes his attention to Bo Tong asking her why she keeps carrying about that watering can. David looks insulted and mater of factly says it's a handbag. Bo Tong is shocked because he's the only one who noticed. He says that other people have rotten eyes, Ma Te tells them both they make a fantastic pair and walks off..without helping. He must have an allergy to helping with any physical work. On set David notes on easy it must have been for him because the president vouched for him, Ma Te says easily working is a talent. Urm okay...

David coughs that he's making a young woman a slave, after he walks away Ma Te mumbles that he doesn't like anything about him. Bo Tong walks up and notices he's nervous and assures him everything will be okay. David comes and asks Bo Tong to breathe on the socks, saying it's for good luck. His thoughts are different, saying it's actually personal and he will cherish her breath. Oh my god! They are the same person. Ma Te stops her and does it himself. Hee.
Broadcast time and everyone is nervous. The segment is going well, with the hosts noting the calls are skyrocketing. Ma Te tells Bo Tong that if they sell 10 million then he'll let her take 10 pictures of him. You know just what will make her happy. As the broadcast is going on, they say that the socks are sold out. Ma Te is feeling good because this is his first time earning money through his own strengths. I say it was pretty much Bo Tong's strength, but whatevs.

Yu Ra is also watching and is happy. Feel good music now plays and we see Ma Te us very happy to know what making his own money feels like. He walks back in to give Bo Tong her reward of snapping 10 pictures of him when he sees her and David celebrating the success. They're jumping up and down, laughing, and hugging. Ma Te is staring at them intently, somewhat out of jealousy but then something else. He looks at how happy they are and then looks at David again. He can finally see his button and it's..Bo Tong.
Do we finally get to see Ma Te be jealous? I think so! Episode 6 recap will be up soon!
