A Hundred Years' Inheritance/Legacy(백년의 유산): Episode 8 Recap

Episode 8

     Episode 8 starts where we left off in episode 7 with Young Ja pushing Chae Won down and telling her not to use violence against her son since she's the one who did wrong, calling her a filthy wench in the process. Chae Won laughs bit and that just angers Young Ja even more. Chul Gyu asks if she's crazy while his mother asks if she cracked her brain when she lost her memory. Then Chae Won asks if she's going to put her back in a mental hospital. Chul Gyu asks what she's talking about and she says which hospital will it be this time.
Young Ja mutters that she got her memory back and she looks kind of scared at this point. Chae Won stands up and asks why she did that, why did she put a normal person into a mental facility and turn her into a madwoman. Why did she accuse her of being an adulteress. Chul Gyu asks if she got her memory back, but she says that she found everything out before she got her memory back. He wonders what truth is she talking about and she tells him that Se Yoon told her everything. Young Ja says that yes she was in a mental hospital, but she was severely depressed and she was worried about her. She sent her there to recuperate, but her escape caused all of this and claims she didn't do anything wrong. Chae Won asked what should would gain by framing her as a cheater. Young Ja looks uncomfortable and asks what framing. She then asks if she's swayed by Se Yoon's words, but Chae Won says she doesn't trust anyone and only trusts facts and evidence. She tells them that Se Yoon had just come back from the US, she checked the date. Young Ja looks unsure of what to say when Chul Gyu wants to know what she's talking about. She asks why they should listen to her while she's in her mental state and then walks off to her room. While she's alone, Young Ja asks herself whether she should have played innocent or should she have played tough. She says that she shouldn't take the compromising attitude and will continue to play tough. In their room, Chae Won is explaining to Chul Gyu about each of the pictures. She tells him that had Se Yoon not saved her, she would have died. She wonders how he could frame him as her secret lover. When she tells him that one of the pictures is fabricated, he goes down to his mother's room. 

He shows her the picture and asks why she did it. She's upset that the people she paid to do it did a sloppy job and rips up the picture in anger. He asks why she deceived him and she replies that she wanted to make her divorce him. He argues that wasn't it enough to put her into a mental hospital and she tells him that he lost his head over her more when she came back, but she's not solely at fault. It all started when she filed for divorce after his scandal. She tells him that had she not taken those measure then he wouldn't have become CEO and yells what's the big deal about being CEO. She reminds him of how hard she worked to put him in that seat, but he still wonders why even lie like that. She says that even then he gets bored with girls in less than 3 years anyways so she made preparation ahead of time. He tells her that he's not going to divorce Chae Won and that he loves her. When he walks out, she says not too long ago he hated her now he loves her. Outside, Chae Won is burning the pictures one by one when Chul Gyu comes outside. He gets on both knees and begs for her forgiveness. He says that he knows it won't make up for what happened, but all he can say is sorry. He gets up and suggests that they move out and possibly move abroad. Chae Won asks him if he knew that she was on the mental hospital and he denies he had anything to do with it. He says that his mother did it all by herself. He wants to forget about the past and promises to be good to her. 

         Se Yoon is sitting in his room when he thinks about Chae Won calling him warm-hearted. He says that it's been 3 years since anyone has called him that. His mom comes in to bring him a drink and notices his good mood. She asks has he been busy at work and mentions that he went to Paju this afternoon. She looks concerned until he says that his dad sent him to a noodle factory's centennial party. Seol Ju looks very relieved. 

   Meanwhile Choon Hee is busy when Kang Jin comes in and and insists she close the cafe so they can go out. He asks her out to the movies and she asks if he's hitting on her. Then he wonders if she's playing hard to get, she looks shocked. He says that he didn't know that she'd be playing coy when she asked the ahjumma(Kkeut Soon) to set them up. She sighs and tells him that she's not interested in him at all, he asks then why did she nudge her. She says that she thought he was the one who did it, but he thinks she's being shy. He goes to eat her food again before she smacks his hand away. 

  Do Hee is locked in a cell in the police station and she's still whining, she doesn't want Ki Moon to leave her. Ki Choon tells her that they're going to figure a way out it while Kang Sook tells her to just relax since there's nothing she can do at the moment. Do Hee says that she never imagined that David Kim would be a con since Mr. Choi introduced her. She cries saying that they're going to be broke and he's had enough of her whining. He tells her that he told her over and over again to quit that club and it serves her right. She whines how can he say that when his wife is locked up. Then the other lady who is in the cell with her tells her to be quiet so she can sleep. Hyo Dong says that there isn't any use in arguing and they'd better find a solution, he tells Do Hee to take it easy. She plops herself on the floor and throws a tantrum crying what was she suppose to do when her husband comes from a humble family and no one helps them with anything. Everyone is always asking them for help and was only doing it so they can make more money, Then she yells at Ki Choon saying that if he made more money then she wouldn't have done that. Ki Moon looks very frustrated at this point.

     Hyo Dong comes home and Kkeut Soon wonders where he's been since he left in a hurry. He tells her that he was out drinking with his brothers-in-law and she doesn't believe him. He takes out his phone to call Ki Choon to verify his story, she looks irritated but sees he's telling the truth. She then starts telling him that she regards him as her son and she wants him to get remarried, it'll be like choosing her own daughter-in-law and tells him not to hang out with bar hostesses aka Choon Hee. She wants him to tell her when he's ready and she'll set him up with a decent woman. When he doesn't answer right away, she asks why and he just says okay and goodnight. Pyong Dal is thinking about his friend that passed away and how he had wished that the noodle house would continue for generations to come. He gets up and gets some papers out, but puts them in his pocket when his wife walks in the room with water. She asks if he was going to sleep, but he clears his throat without responding. In his room, Hyo Dong is hanging his jacket up when he remembers how Choon He''s clothes smelled and is caught up in his own world before he catches himself. Luckily for his sake, Chae Won calls him. She says that she can't sleep and he asks how her husband is doing, he's sleep. He apologizes for sending her home empty-handed, saying that he should have packed some food for her mother-in-law. He begins to tell her that Chul Gyu is a thoughtful man and must frustrated with her condition but doesn't let it show. He advises her to be good to him when she recovers her memory. He says that a man's true value shows when he's put in a crisis and she begins to cry, but tells him that she's okay. In her head she says that she'll be alright and that she will recover her memory and leave that house in high spirits. 

    The next day, Se Yoon is getting ready for work when his mom comes on with vitamins for him to take. he asks her if she's feeling okay and she says yes. He tells her that when he gets his first check he's going to buy her some herbal medicine, she warns him not to go back on his word. His dad walks in and wants to know what's so funny, Seol Ju tells him. He jokes that it's him not his mother who writes his paychecks. They all laugh(It's not that significant, but it's a nice happy family moment. We don't get much of that in this show). Then his phone rings and it's Chul Gyu. They meet at a restaurant and Chul Gyu apologizes for his behavior. Se Yoon asks if the misunderstandings are all cleared, Chul Gyu says that he's trusted his wife since the beginning, but had some doubts due to her circumstances. He says he's sorry for causing him harm against his will and Se Yoon says he's glad that's cleared up, but has to ask about why she was even framed in the first place. Chul Gyu becomes visibly startled by this question and says he doesn't have to tell him about his family affairs. Se Yoon says he understands, but there are still some loose ends with what Chae Won experienced, it was vicious and she shouldn't overlook them and he's not sure if he should let it pass. Chul Gyu asks what that means, he advises him to just set up measures to protect his wife. He becomes defensive asking Se Yoon if he's her family and SeYoon says to not get him wrong, but is interrupted. Chul Gyu says that he's not there to argue with him he's only there to clear the misunderstandings and say thank you. Se Yoon stands up to shake his hand, but Chul Gyu says to let's not have to meet again. 

   Before she leaves for work, Young Ja is calling Chae Won tenacious and wondering why she's still there even though she knows everything. Chae Won simply says to have a good day and bows. Young Ja tells her that she has to be tired of her begs her to just let things end there. She appears to want to yell, but keeps her composure and says she hopes she doesn't have to see her when she gets back. When she's gone, Chae Won sneaks into her room and starts looking for the key to the basement when Young Ja comes back because she forgot something, Chae Won hides behind the door and doesn't get caught. 

     At Ki choon and Kang Sook's house, the siblings gather with Ki Moon. Hyo Dong immediately slides something towards Ki Moon and it's some money that he's saved up. He tells him to use it for the settlement. Kanf Sook says that if they were able to sell their house then they'd be able to help and Ki Ok apologizes for not having any money either. He gives the money back to Hyo Dong and says that he just put his house on the urgent sale list. This causes Ki Choon to warn him about the bad housing market since they haven't been able to sell theirs. Kang Sook says that Do Hee will pass out when she hears the news and DoHee isn't too happy about hearing that. She wonders if they're going to live on the street, but he says that they'll either have to move into a smaller place or with his parents. She refuses the latter option and says she'd rather die than live with them. She reminds him that she gets "nauseous" whenever they go near that house so it'll be impossible. He tells her that she asked for this. She's defeated.(Am I the only one who is seriously tired of Dohee? She's so overly dramatic and why'd she marry Ki Moon in the first place if she knew what his family was like? If she doesn't like them, then why marry into that family? I hope she makes a serious change by the end of the series)  Ki Choon and Kang Sook go to see a Shaman about their house woes. They tell her that they've been divorced for 3 months, but since their house isn't sold yet they still live together. If their house was sold then they'd go their separate ways and divide their properties. Ki Choon then explains all that they did to help it sell, talismans and scissors on the walls, but nothing helps. The Shaman says that the house isn't the important thing right, they're going to hit the jackpot soon. Which they both looked shocked to hear.

    Kang Jin's singing class is over when a couple of the women give him some food. He wonders why one of them is giving him food when she was demanding money from him last week. She says that his voice makes her forget all of that, the women in the class go wild when he blows them a kiss. Ki Ok wants to know his secret knowing what happened last week. He responds by telling her maybe it's his looks and sincerity, she regrets asking him. He asks about her cold and she says that it's better, he gives her some dry sides for her to eat. She thinks that he's trying to shave some money off of his debt to her, but he says that it's a gift and she accepts. Then he leans in closer and asks if she wants to go to the movies with him, she asks if he's trying to hit on her. He says that why do women overreact when he asks them that and mumbles to himself. She thinks he was trying to hit on her. On his way home he sees Kkeut Soon and greets her. She smiles and says 'Oh, Rooftop Oppa!"(Don't know why that's funny lol). She asks him if he's eaten and he says no, but his class just finished and he's got Ramen somewhere to eat. She invites him over for some noodle soup and he accepts her invitation.  As she's watching him east, Kkeut Soon asks Kang Jin where he's from. He tells her that he's from Seosan, Choongcheongnamdo. She gets excited because she's from the same province. He says he knew that's why she reminded him of his deceased mother. They get excited and he calls her mom. HyoDong comes home and she introduces him to Kang Jin. He tells Hyo Dong that he's lucky to have a mother-in-law like her. She introduces him as Rooftop Oppa(IDK Why I still love that) and they shake hands, but as they are shaking hands Kkeut Soon tells him that she's trying to get him Choon Hee together. This irritates Hyo Dong and he squeezes Kang Jin's hand tighter.
       Seol Ju finally decides to go visit Choon Hee(I'm guessing the guilt of being thoughtless and insensitive got to her?) and looks a bit nervous. Choon Hee is mopping and looks up in surprise to see her there. She asks her how she knew about the place and Seol Ju says that she called last night and a customer gave her the address. She apologizes for what happened before and says that she didn't mean it like that, but she's been restless since their last encounter. Choon Hee says that she knew that Seol Ju couldn't change like that and hugs her. In her room, Choon Hee also apologizes saying that she had an inferiority complex. She asks in Choon Hee is married and given answer of no, Choon Hee says it's not in her fate to be married. She then asks Seol Ju if she's happy and she tells her yes. Choon Hee tells her she should invite her over her home when she's free, Seol Ju looks hesitant, but nods yes. Then she asks Choon Hee if she's interested in doing business in Busan, one of her friend owns a building there and she could rent her office space there. Choon Hee jokes that she's trying to get rid of her, but Seol Ju says no she just knows she likes the sea and brought it up.

     Hyo Dong goes into his room irritated by the thought of Kang Jin calling Kkeut Soon mom and possibly being with Choon Hee. While he's mumbling to himself, his phone rings and someone wants to meet with him. It's Young Ja, so it's not good. She tells him to take back his daughter and she says that since she's a mother it was hard for her to even bring it up. She says let's divorve them and Hyo Dong thinks it's because Chae Won lost her memory, he starts to say that he can take care of her until it returns. Young Ja says that's not the real issue, but there has been problems since she married into the family. Chae Won has had many conflicts with her and has personality clashes with her Chul Gyu, she tells him that they had already signed the divorce papers before the accident. She tells him that she continued to live with them, but the damage was irreparable  He still can't believe that Chae Won wanted the divorce before the accident. He then goes to visit Chae Won and tells her to pack her stuff up so they can go home. She doesn't understand and he tells her that he knows she signed divorce papers before the accident. He says that Young Ja and Chul Gyu are the same and he can't let her sit there and eat their salt. He says to come home and he'll just have to explain it all to her grandparents. He begins to cry and ask why she always told him she was happy when she wasn't, then he says that he doesn't deserve to be her father because he should have noticed her looking gaunt and gloomy. He didn't know that she was leading such a miserable married life, he tries to take her hand to go with him but she lets go. She tells him that she can't leave like this, she'll leave when she recovers her memory and will walk out with dignity. She doesn't want to leave like she's been thrown out, he can't get the right words out.

 

Just then Chul Gyu walks in and tells him not to take Chae Won. He kneels down in front of Hyo Dong and apologizes for not protecting Chae Won, but Hyo Dong reminds him that they already signed the papers. He says that he realized that Chae Won is the only woman for him. He promises to be a new man and to trust him this once. All Hyo Dong can do is sigh and leaves.
   In the truck on the side of the road, he's sighing in disbelief. Choon Hee is walking by and sees him. She tells him that she just came back from buying fruits and asks what he's doing there. Next thing you know, he tells her everything that has happened that day. He tells her that Young Ja had opposed their marriage at first because Chae Won doesn't come from a well-off family, but he figured that she gave in because people have a weak spot for their kids. He had also thought that once they were married and had a baby then everything would be fine. He never thought that his daughter would be going through so much. He starts sobbing while she comforts him then he hears his mother-in-law's voice. She walks up and says her feet are hurting from her walk so give her a ride back home if he's on his way there. He starts driving slowly and tells her that he's on his way to make a delivery, but she insists that he can drop her off on the way. He drives off so she can't see Choon Hee in the truck.
    Se Yoon is called to a bar where Ju Ri has apparently drank too much, the bartender said that she was distressed and he called the first number he saw. Se Yoon says thank you and gets her up. She says that she's not drunk and sits back down to drink some more. He gets her up and her shirt is unbuttoned some and he puts her scarf around her neck. When he gets her up she turns around to smile at the bartender(More on JuRi faking being drunk later)
  Back at home, Chul Gyu tells his mother that he plan to move out of the country and emigrate somewhere else. She can't believe it and he tells her that just simply moving out won't help so they are going to live abroad. Young Ja is immediately offended and says that he's moving out of the country so hi wife won't have to see her. He says sorry, but this is the only way he can think of to make things better. Then she starts ranting on about how she worked so hard to feed him and whatnot and then he's going to desert her(WTF? Seriously lady?). He tells her that's not it, but it's obvious that she can't live in the same place as Chae Won. She says does he want her to bite her tongue and begins to grab her neck by throwing a little tantrum. Chae Won comes downstairs at this point and tries to calm her down. She says what's the use of living when her own son wants to dessert her(Did you forget that you had a daughter?). Chul Gyu is obviously fed up with his mother's antics and is pissed about how she's acting and walks out. Of course she was only acting because she's back to her normal bitchy self when he leaves and stares at Chae Won. She calls her a fox and says does she think she can take her precious son by emigrating. Chae Won insists that it was his idea, not hers. Young Ja tells her that she really needs bitter experiences and pushes her out the front door and into the cold winter night in nothing but indoor clothes and house slippers. She yells telling her that her son is turning against her and she can't calm down. She bangs on the gate for it to be opened, but now she's stuck outside.
    Se Yoon is driving a "drunk" JuRi home and tells her he'll wake her up when they get to her house. She moans and moves over like she's going to lean on him, you know like you do when you're actually drunk/sleepy, but instead kisses him and moves back to her place in the seat. He laughs and says that she must still have that same drinking habit she had in the U.S. by kissing anyone when she's drunk. She asks herself "That doesn't work?"(Ya think?).  So to heighten the intisity, she urges him to stop the car because she feels sick. He pulls over and she hops out and acts like she's about to throw up. She says that she just got a little carsick so he offers to walk her home instead, but she declines. He scolds her for drinking so much when her body can't handle it and asks if anything is troubling her. Her eyes light up thinking it's the perfect time to confess so she hugs him and asks him if he really wants to know why she drank so much. He just says that she's acting strange. When she grabs his face to kiss him again, he think she's still drunk and pulls her away. She says that she's sober, but she's distressed and he wants to know why. She starts off by saying that she was going to take this to the grave with her for Eun Sol, but she can't anymore. She starts to tell him: "I..Se Yoon(Sunbae as she calls him)..." but can't finish when she hears her name being called. It's the housekeeper who's glad to see her then apologizes when she thinks she interrupted something. Se Yoon says no and then asks the ahjumma to taje JuRi home since she's been drinking. When she tries to help her, JuRi screams and says she's not drunk and that she just ruined everything.
  Se Yoon is driving home when he thinks he spots Chae Won walking on the sidewalk. He pulls over and gets out to talk to her. He asks what happened and in true Chae Won fashion, she makes up a story saying she was on her way to the store to buy detergent. Of course he doesn't believe her given the attire she chooses to wear to the store. She tells him that she was in a hurry, he tells her to get in the car. To make

conversation, she says that she guesses he had business over that way. He says that one of his hoobaes lives this way. He reaches and gives her his jacket to wear. She jokes and says that she thinks her mind just wanders since she lost her memory and she can't believe she came out in that outfit. Then she realizes that he's not taking her home and wonders where they are going since she has to buy a loaf of bread. He catches her lie and tells her that she had said she was buying detergent. He calms her and says that he's not a kidnapper, he's going to eat and doesn't want to eat by himself. By the time they get to the restaurant, she's asleep so he adjusts the jacket on her. We see Chul Gyu at a bar with a salad next to him and drinking. Back to Se Yoon's car: Chae Won wakes up and sees Se Yoon asleep and puts the jacket on him, but he awakens. She apologizes for falling asleep like that, but he thanks her for letting him get a nap in. He gives her the jacket so they can go inside. When he opens the door he looks at her feet in the slippers so he gives her a pair of his shoes to wear. She doesn't want to at first, but he says it's better than house slippers and puts them on her(Awwwwwwww). Once they have their food, Chae Won doesn't touch it and just looks at it. Se Yoon thinks she's forgotten how to eat ox bone soup and helps her out. She puts the spoon in the bowl and starts to cry, he tells her to stop or people will think it's his fault since he's not the type to make women cry. She laughs and starts eating. Once they're outside again, she informs him that she's can go back on her own because she doesn't want to inconvenience him further. She asks him for bus fare and she promises to pay him back, he refuses since it's obvious she was thrown out of the house. She still insists that she wasn't thrown out. After she explains how she ran into him and the events of the last hour then informing him that he was the one who said that they'd be better off staying out of each other's business. In frustration he gives her the money and says that he won't care whether she gets home or not. She promises to return the the shoes and money, but he says no and hopes they will never meet again. As she walks away, he regrets "playing" the warm-hearted guy. Chae Won is on a bus thinking about what Se Yoon said to her about being crazy for wanting to go back. She's sitting in front of the gate determined not to be thrown out like that and to leave when she has her dignity and memory back.
      The next morning, Chul Gyu is watching over her until she wakes up, He tells her that if it weren't for the housekeeper finding her then she'd have froze to death. He offers to take her to the hospital or have a doctor come in, but she declines it. Young Ja walks in and looks super pissed off. She asks if he's going to get ready for work and when he doesn't answer she asks why isn't he showering since he's CEO, he sighs heavily. She starts talking crap saying that he put a dagger in her heart, he's so worried about her fever. He tells her to stop yelling, she just woke up.
     Pyong Dal is looking at the pictures of his grandfather and father and tells them that he will have to family business carry on. Cue dramatic Do Hee whining how she got her money swindles away. Ki Moon says that he's tired of hearing about her woes all day. His phone rings and it's message from his dad. Ki Choon and Kang Sook are in their restaurant He's bought lottery tickets from a store that sold a previous winner, she scolds him for buying that and he reminds her of what the Shaman said about them hitting the jackpot. He also receives a message from his dad. Ki Ok is in the middle of a piano lesson when the landlord asks for her  rent, she promises that she'll pay it once she receives the tuition from her students. Then her phone rings and it's from her father. Hyo Dong is fixing a utility pole when his phone also rings, he sees it's from Pyong Dal. In the video, he talks about how his days on the earth are numbered and that he's going to hand over the business to one of them. He says that included with the business is 10 acres of wheat field that he purchased a long time ago. He says that it's in a green belt zone meaning that when it's dissolved it'll be worth $10 million. Everyone looks on in shock. He simply says that the one who comes to live with him will inherit the factory and wheat field so those who are interested, come. Everyone doesn't believe what they just heard. Ki Choon is worried that maybe his father is still upset over them not attending the party, but Kang Sook doesn't think so. Ki Ok calls Kang Sook to see if they saw the same video. Kang Sook tells her not to worry about it since a family business should be passed to sons, not daughters. Ki Ok gets upset telling her not to draw a line between sons and daughters. Ki Moon and Do Hee go to see to make sure that the field is really worth that much money...It is and they are both in shock. Ki Choon and his family go see the wheat field, but are dressed up like they're rich since they think they already are. Hyo Dong comes home to find that Pyong Dal isn't back yet, he asks Kkeut Soon if he's not feeling well. Then Ki Ok comes running in telling her mother that she's too much since she should have told her about the money, but Kkeut Soon has no idea about any money.
      When she comes home, Young Ja wonders what the 'psycho' did all day, but the housekeeper says she doesn't know. Then she says that Chae Won seemed to be looking for the basement key in order to find her suitcase. She wonders what she put in there that seems so important so she goes down to find it. Chae Won follows her down. and hides in the basement. She finds it, but before Chae Won can leave she's accidentally locked inside. Young Ja takes the suitcase with her. Chae Won realizes what happens and screams for help. in that moment, she regains her memory. End.
