T-Drama Review: When I See You Again Episode 19

I'm late, but things have started to heat up and become fast now that this is the episode before the finale. CEO Luna is finally breaking down her wall to allow herself to care about her daughter, but will it be enough? Then An Xi finally discovers what Yan Ze is capable of, but what will she do now that she knows Ya En's feelings for him are strong?

I'm still on the fence about Luna, she's been so stubborn up until now that I'm not sure if she'll allow herself to open up to An Xi, but it looks like she's trying. Despite An Xi saying she's disappointed in her, she never leaves her mother's side and Luna is taking notice. She's been this cold and calculating woman for nearly 30 years that it's not going to be to shed that image overnight. I don't know what she's holding onto, she threw her pride out the window the minute she abandoned her family, but I digress. I wonder what she's going to do now that she knows Yan Ze has betrayed her, she says she'll honor the contract since it was signed, but that will really put her and her company in a bad light. As much as I don't like her, I don't want things to get too bad for her since it can be bad for An Xi.
Speaking of An Xi, she was frustrating, but it's consistent with her character and for her to suddenly go 'dark' would go against the past 18 episodes. She sees the good in everyone including Yan Ze and she doesn't want to Ya En to get hurt by learning what he's really up to (although she isn't that slow, she knows he's up to something unpleasant) so she wants him to make his decision based on his feelings for her. Now the question remains: Will he give it up or will something happening to Ya En cause him to see the error of his ways? I am holding out hope that he will somehow change based on his innocent girlfriend, he's oddly honest with her and she knows that he's obsessed with winning. She knows he's not okay even though he says he is, somehow Ya En can see him for who he wants to be, but he can't see himself as that. I'm conflicted with him because I want him to be punished for what he's done, but at the same time I want him to truly see what Ya En sees and know that he doesn't have to win at everything. Someone in the Soompi thread said he's a tragic villain and I agree, he has a sad story and his actions are directly related to his childhood. Hu Yan Ze has abandonment issues and he has never been anyone's priority, but he knows Ya En's pure love for him so while he is deeply moved, he won't be able to throw his revenge away until he nearly loses that one person who put him first: Ya En. I don't want her to be hurt or anything, but she may be the only person to save him from himself.
I have to give it up to You Qian for his cleverness in this episode, I was certain he wanted the contracts, but all he wanted was to prove his point to An Xi and watch Yan Ze panic. He knew what steps he'd take to ensure he would be fine and he could get him with that. I wanted to be surprised he'd involve Ya En, but I wasn't and it made perfect sense. She said he was his first priority and of course she wanted to prove it, she doesn't want him to get hurt. I know I shipped them early on, so I hope that she doesn't really get hurt too much by this.
You Qian and An Xi finally reconciled this episode and Grandpa is to thank. I knew it wouldn't last long anyways, but it was just as nice seeing him play matchmaker to get them in the same room. An Xi went to extra measures to apologize to You Qian without actually "apologizing", he knew she wasn't drunk, but it was cute how she faked it just to skip that awkward making up stage. Their relationship becomes stronger with each passing episode, one thing I loved about this drama is how there was no outside forces that caused their separation. Everything that pulled them a part and back in was them.
If I had one complaint it would be the lack of Yong Qing lately, I know the story has to focus on Yan Ze's revenge plot, but I do wish they would have had her learn the truth earlier on so we could really enjoy this newer Hu Yong Qing properly. I knew she'd end up with Ya Lu, but I wish we'd seen this a little earlier to see their progress, but I guess it's better than not knowing where she'd end up. Same goes for Zhi Lin, I know she'd be matched with Da Yu so let's see if he can successfully woo her even though he's far from rich.
At the time this has been posted, episode 20 has already aired so that review should be up as soon as subs come out. *sigh* The downside of being an international viewer who needs English subs.
