Drama Review: Detectives of Seonam Girls High School Episode 6
So. Much. Drama. Holy crackers in a barrel. What was that?! I need a moment *breathes* This episode was so good! We learned so much and yet are left with so many questions especially after that preview. Let's get on with the review, I'm itching to talk about it this week...
All I can say is that "I knew it!" *pats self*. I knew Ra On had to have shot himself or at least been involved in it. Looking back, he was far too calm about being shot by someone and didn't seem like he was in a rush to find out who did it. I also had an inkling the paint towel thing was totally separate and couldn't have been done by the same person. Looks like I had some correct theories, we found out that the girl who had bumped into Ye Hee was responsible for the paint soaked towels and was acting out on Ra On's manager's orders. She then turned herself in, but only admitted to paint portion of the incident, not the shooting while we discover his manger was the one who shot him, but it was on his own orders to do so. I knew the camera bag was suspicious since Mr. Ha had noticed it as well and their entire deduction on the events proved why Ra On was behind his own shooting: To get out of his mandatory military enlistment and to protect Chae Yool from his uncle.
To be quite honest, Mr. Ha has always had this creepy factor to him, but he was also a grey character meaning you weren't sure where you'd place him in terms of good or bad. So far, we've seen him be the wise old owl who knows the right thing to say to help the girls with their cases and it's good because without his help, Chae Yool wouldn't have gotten certain evidences about their cases. But most recently. he's gotten a little strange since Ra On's confession to Chae Yool that his uncle is somehow responsible for a girl's death. Remember that moment in episode 1 where they showed a girl jumping off the school roof? Well her name was Mi Ye and appaently, she committed suicide because of Mr. Ha. What did he do? Well, we're not too sure, but I won't jump to conclusions to say that he was definetly responsible because there's nothing pointing to him. However, his hallucination at the end of the episode did scream something about his relationship with her. Whatever happened, it still haunts him, but episode 7's preview also showed he wants Ra On to get over it. So what really happened to Mi Ye? Was it an inappropriate teacher-student relationship or something much deeper? Well, this seems to be part of the main plot so we're probably not going to find out until we get closer to the finale. Plus, did anyone else get creeped out when she smiled? What was that about?
I think what I have loved so much about this show is that we find out things when the characters find them out, we're not one step behind them in terms of knowledge nor do we know more than them. I think it's very refreshing to have the audience be on the same page as the main character, so it's like we're solving these mysteries along with them. All we can do is come up with theories like they do and find out evidence to prove them to be true or to debunk them.
Onto some not so serious, crime related stuff. I am still trying to figure Chae Joon out and I am getting nowhere. I can see how he'd mistake Ye Hee for Mi Do since she photoshopped all those pictures, but for someone who is a full grown adult, why does he hold so much interest in a 17-year-old high school student who is 2 years away from graduation? I guess I'd feel different if they were all in college then it wouldn't matter, but I am somehow bothered by this and probably will be for some time. Then I am also wondering why Mi Do never allowed Ye Hee to correct Chae Joon. In the beginning, I figured she was insecure about her looks, but she clearly isn't so I wonder what the problem is? She's going to have to say something soon since it's painfully obvious Ye Hee is uncomfortable with this and she isn't as smart as Mi Do so it's going to be hard to keep up the act.
Next case: Missing doll? Any ideas on why it's so special?
