Drama Review: Surplus Princess Episode 2

New legs, an unfamiliar environment with a new mission is what we sees set up in episode 2 of our mermaid tale and it is complete with hijinks and sketchy second leads. Let the fun begin!

In episode 1, we saw how Aileen was very adamant on becoming human in order to meet Kwon Shi Kyung, but she never counted on his employee Yoon Jin Ah to swoop in and take her grand moment. Understandably, Aileen is upset and can't see how Jin Ah came to get the phone in her possession when she's the one who's had it. I guess it's good that she saw who Shi Kyung really is, I wouldn't have liked it if she was following him around like a lost puppy knowing he doesn't notice her in that way. Unfortunately. her wish to become a mermaid again is impossible and she's given the quest to find true love in 100 days or risk turning into bubbles like another mermaid, Hye Young. Well now the plot begins and Aileen is now Kim Ha Ni and had moved into that shared house that Jin Ah recently moved out of. Ahn Ma Nyeo warns that her identity must be kept a secret, I mean who'd believe she was a mermaid princess who became human to find her true love anyway? Haha No one would believe that one so our princess must live as a recent graduate who must find work and love in the big city of Seoul.
You know what else is unbelievable? How mean and unapologetic Jin Ah has been towards Hyun Myung. If you follow me on Twitter then you've seen my thoughts on her and my wish for her to jump off a bridge into the Han River. You can tell when she received that call from her former housemates that she didn't want to go find Hyun Myung and since she's had her eye on Shi Kyung, she was looking for that perfect opportunity to dump him in order to make herself feel less guilty. She was with him out of convenience, but some part of me feels as if she loved him at some point or else why stay for 3 years even when her mother opposed of their relationship? Guess the pressures of being in a large company and to marry into money got to her and she became heartless towards the one person who has been there for her. The day will come when Jin Ah will see what a great guy she had in Hyun Myung and attempt to win him back. By this time I hope he will already have fallen for Aileen (Ha Ni) and he'll treat her as she did him. Wishful thinking because he's way too nice for that, I predict he'll try to win Jin Ah back for a while. *sigh* Let's hope this won't last too long.

So far, I can see that there are no useless characters as everyone (especially within the shared house) has a purpose and I think will eventually aid in our OTP coming together. The only character who is a mystery is Ahn Hye Young (Kim Seul Gi), but hopefully Ha Ni will fill us in on her elusiveness in the next episode. I love Kim Seul Gi so I am excited to see how her character is.

Now that we are two episodes in, I feel that this is a promising drama and am hoping for the best from the writer. What are your thoughts so far?
