My Thoughts So Far: Good Doctor

Good Doctor is about Park Shi On, someone with Autism and Savant Syndrome, who happens to become a Pediatric surgeon. It stars Joo Won, Moon Chae Won, Kim Min Seo, and Joo Sang Wook.
So far, I like this series and I'm not saying that because I'm also reviewing this for Drama Fever every week. I have been trying to avoid sad dramas lately, I'm really not in the mood to cry. I've seen Third Hospital(Oh Ji Ho) and I cried for 14 out of 16 episodes, it's just sad. With that said, I did in fact cry but it wasn't the same and I can't drop it. Told myself I wouldn't drop any dramas that I start, so I'm keeping it.
Joo Won plays Dr. Park Shi On, an Autistic person who also has Savant Syndrome. For those who don't know what Savant Syndrome is, here's the definition(Thank you Wikepedia): A condition in which a person with serious mental disabilities, including autistic disorder, demonstrates profound and prodigious capacities or abilities far in excess of what would be considered normal. It's nice to note that not all people with Autism are savants and vice versa. Despite what is said on the show, Autism isn't really curable. Granted there have been cases where some can recover and aren't considered Autistic anymore, however there aren't many that are recorded/followed and most just become better at communication and can even become independent. Just wanted to give you a little background so you can better understand Shi On.
Park Shi On is taken on a resident at Sungwon Hospital despite the vote being no at first. He helps a little boy who was cut with glass when a sign fell at the train station, someone recorded it and the directors decided to hire him due to the publicity the hospital received. One thing I can say I don't enjoy is the politics within the hospital, there are some who don't want Dr. Choi Woo Seok(Cheon Ho Jin) as director and are trying to use this to have him quit or fired, whichever comes first. The problem with all this power struggle is that patients are being neglected(as we saw in episode 3 with the baby) and refuse to let another department take over when it's clear they can handle it. Dr. Ko Choong Man is as incompetent as they come, but he's only there due to him being a director's brother-in-law. Guess being related to the director automatically makes you Director of Pediatric Surgery material, who knew?
So far, I really like the way the Pediatric Department stick together and Dr. Kim Do Han(Joo Sang Wook) is an excellent leader/teacher for his staff. I can see he really loves his job and has great respect for Woo Seok. Dr. Cha Yoon Seo(Moon Chae Won) is a very strong female lead and very capable of taking care of herself. She's a hard worker and can easily acknowledge when someone is better than her at something, which she does when she realizes Shi On is more knowledgeable than she is. I can already see that Do Han will struggle the most with whether to do the right thing or just be out for himself. His fiancee, I'm not sure where she's at. Yoo Chae Kyung(Kim Min Seo) is a strong character as well, but I'm not sure whether some of her actions are due to selfishness or because she wants things to be better. We know she doesn't get along with her stepmother, President Lee Yeon Won(Na Young Hee), and that could possibly be why she appears to be in cahoots with one director to replace her. Though she's already said she doesn't want her Do Han Oppa to be affected, but who knows what she'll think when he becomes different to her.
So you're probably thinking is this worth it? I can say that yes it is worth watching so far. You can't help but root for Shi On to become more understood and to gain the respect he deserves from his colleagues. So far, Yoon Seo and Dr. Han Jin Wook(Kim Young Kwang) seem to be the only ones, besides mentor Woo Seok, who actually treat him as a person though Do Han is coming around. I know some are apprehensive from watching Joo Won in another drama after Level 7 Civil Servant was a complete disaster to many watchers, I have to say that you will forgive him and forget that other drama ever existed.
