Her Legend Episode 1 Recap
After taking a well needed break, I am back and fully committed to recapping this drama. Her Legend tells the story of two women who's fates change when they cross paths with a man who has everything. Okay, I know this told NOTHING about the story but that's all we really got before this aired. I do have to say that even with little to no information about this drama, I was more than willing to watch. Choi Jung Won is in it and that's enough for me. Plus, I heard that this drama is loosely based on a designer's real life. Cool, huh? Let's get into this recap.
On the train back home, Jung Soo opens it to find a back pack with a lunch pale then finds a card. She opens it and the note says "If you can dream it, you can do it. - Walt Disney". Hye Jung recognizes the quote right away and we see that Soo Ho wrote it on the same display window Jung Soo was looking at when they were apparently dating. That night, Hye Jung gets a terrible migraine and she realizes this the end for her because instead of waking her daughter up, she writes a phone number down on Jung Soo's card. The number belongs to her older brother, Eun Ki Joong, whom she's estranged from. When he gets the phone call, he's distraught and leaves immediately. His wife, on the other hand, is worried about their bills stacking up more and insists she goes to work. She goes work complaints and all, even insulting a customer in the process. This woman really does take her personal issues to work with her. Her daughter, Kyung Hee, shows up and hands her yet another award she's won at school.
On their way home, Mi Yeon and Kyung Hee hide from load sharks, Kyung Hee guesses that they didn't pay their interest this month and whines about their poor lives. Inside, the house is messed up. Mi Yeon hears the door and stiffens thinking the gangsters are back, but it's only her husband who has brought a gift in the form of a niece. It's quite shocking I guess since no one knew Hye Jung had a daughter. No one is happy about the new found family member, especially Mi Yeon, who says they can't afford her. Ki Joong says he's her only blood left, but Mi Yeon doesn't care and wants her out. I feel so bad for Jung Soo who can see she's not wanted, but clearly has no place to go. That night, Jung Soo goes to the bathroom frequently, but gets fussed at by Kyung Hee and ends up peeing in the bed. Mi Yeon tells her to wash her own blankets and she does that plus makes her own food since she slept late due to her being up all night.

Episode 1
We begin in 1997, where a woman is singing in a club and her daughter is is behind a curtain watching. The woman suddenly collapses, panicking everyone including her young daughter. We learn that mom sick and in need of an operation, but refuses to go get treatment(for what, I don't know. I assume a tumor) and reassures her daughter, Eun Jung Soo, that she's fine. Later that day they embark on an outing and Jung Soo assumes they're going to the hospital until Mom says they're going to Seoul. Jung Soo wonders why and Mom, Eun Hye Jung, wonders why she never asks about her father. Jung Soo counters that her mother never asked why she hit her friend, Suk Ho. Hye Jung simply says that she knows Jung Soo wouldn't simply hit for no reason. I would have LOVED a mother like that. Once in Seoul, it looks like they've done some shopping then Jung Soo stops by a store with handbags in the display window. They look at the expensive purses until a security guard comes out ordering the cleaning lady to wipe the hand prints from the window. Seriously? I doubt she made the window that dirty. Hye Jung tells the man she's here to see someone, but fails to say who when she notices Jung Soo is missing. The ass of a security guard won't let her in to see if her child ran inside, which Hye Jung insists she must have so she runs past him. Little Jung Soo is admiring all the handbags and tries to touch one, setting off an alarm. The security guard drags her out insisting on calling the police, stating there's been a pick pocket around there lately. Hye Jung finally says she's there to see Director Choi Soo Ho, but as soon as he arrives she turns around. Too late because he recognizes her, but says nothing. He sends an employee out with a gift for Jung Soo, saying that it's something they give kids who visit for field trips. She hesitantly takes it.

We're then introduced to a couple coming out of a hospital who look longingly at a couple holding a newborn. Kim Jong Wook and Woo Do Young are trying to have a baby, but even with IVF treatments, they haven't been able to get pregnant yet. Jong Wook and his father insist that she's done enough and her health isn't worth it, but Do Young doesn't mind doing more treatments. Jong Wook informs his father they will be staying at one of the vacation homes near the beach, mostly to get Do Young's mind off of having a baby.
Ki Joong and Jung Soo spread her mothers ashes in the ocean, both looking distraught. Uncle and niece end up at a restaurant where Uncle drinks and then cries while holding Jung Soo's hand. I actually teared up while watching this, it's such a sad scene. On their way out, they cross paths with the Kims and Do Young briefly looks at Jung Soo. At the beach house, Jong Wook wants his wife to start drawing again and he suggests adoption instead of risking her health more.

Back to our lovely couple, Jong Wook has to leave for two months and asks Do Young to come with him. She declines saying she has finally found energy to draw again. She does offer to drive him to the airport. Jung Soo goes to the pharmacy and describes her symptoms, the pharmacist says to go to the hospital, but Jung Soo just wants some medicine. On he way back, she walks into the two gangster tearing the house up, even messing up Kyung Hee's room. She bites one of them, but he picks her up and throws her into the car, even with Mi Yeon yelling at him to put her down. The two things kidnap Jung Soo just as Kyung Hee is coming home, telling Mi Yeon that they're pretty much taking the child as collateral until he pays them. Jung Soo sits in the backseat and says she has to go to the bathroom, they say no at first but she insists it's an emergency. Reluctantly, they agree and Thug#1 gets out and tells her to walk 20 steps and don't think about running away. Before she does her business(in the field I may add), she orders him to turn around saying it's embarrassing. When he turns around, she's gone. He and Thug#2 run after her. She loses both of her shoes in the process, but keeps going. In the midst of all of this, Ki Joong is at an adoption agency asking if he could adopt Jung Soo without his wife's consent, sadly the answer is no. But adds to a nice foreshadowing of events to come. Jung Soo ends up at a road and manages to get the car to stop. It's Do Young on her way back from the airport. Jung Soo is sweaty and asking her to let her in. This is where stop.
