Drama Review: Birth of a Beauty Episodes 3-4

This week we got a little more serious as the drama began to set up the main plot. Sara begins to see Kang Joon as the despicable jerk that he is while it seems that Tae Hee is still in denial about Chae Yeon's involvement in Sa Geum Ran's accident.

This is billed as a rom com, but episodes 3 and 4 were a tad more serious with the reveal of who was behind Geum Ran's accident. I know everyone pretty much guessed who it was and we were right: It was her douchebag of an husband, Kang Joon. The sadder part is that he felt no remorse for his actions, he wanted to get rid of her and he succeeded. Instead of divorcing his wife like a normal person who wants out of an unhappy marriage, he cheats on her then expects her to divorce him quietly once his affair was revealed. Um no, it does not work that way and we see that Geum Ran was going to head to the press with her story which would make the public feel even worse for her since she was also on Change talking about her life. Kang Joon couldn't see that happening since that means he'd get nothing from the divorce except public shame and being broke since all the money belonged to his "dead" wife. Now that she's gone, he now owns her property and has done the unthinkable by kicking her mother out of her own home. He's heartless and it's pretty obvious he only views the women he's with as stepping stones, he has never once told Chae Yeon he loved her. Although I'm not sure if she's as in love with him as she maybe convinces herself. I think hers is more attraction and lust than actual love. She knowingly dated a married man and does not feel sorry for the hurt she caused to his wife, she admitted that she also wanted Geum Ran dead after overhearing the threat.
Even though Guem Ran has transformed into Sara, the drama has shown us that they are in fact two different people and now Sara will do what Geum Ran was never able to do and that's get back at those who made a fool out of her and hurt her. In a way, she's avenging Geum Ran's treatment and her goal is to get justice for those who wronged her. Those who are praising her death and have no qualms about bragging her suicide are on Sara's list. Speaking of bragging about a suicide, how dumb are Kang Joon's sisters? Why would you show sister-in-law's suicide note to a total stranger just because she asked to see it? I know they were drinking, but I already got the airhead vibe from then in the beginning. I wouldn't paint either sister as "evil" just as mean spirited who were highly influenced by their narcissistic mother, who honestly has some serious issues of her own. It's obvious she had the greatest influence on Kang Joon since he seems to be just like her, very sly, manipulative, and always looking for ways to be get higher up on the social status ladder with no regards to who they have to step on to get there.
The plot I am looking forward to really seeing aside from Sara and her revenge is Tae Hee taking his place in Winner Group as the rightful heir to the company. His father's last words to him may have been to not seek the truth because it may cause pain, it's better to know that to be in the dark. Obviously, he can't go on forever not trying to figure out who killed his parents and it seems he may just be relapsing with his panic attacks. I believe him knowingly staying in the dark is only making things worse and him being with Sara will give him the confidence he needs to face his half brother on for the company. It'll come as a surprise to Min Hyuk (and his mother) since Tae Hee is believed to be dead along with his parents, which will make the fight for the company even harder. Tae Hee is the rightful heir, but Min Hyuk has been around the longest and it's obvious he uses fear and aggression as means to get his way. Tae Hee will have to use all of his knowledge to defeat his brother even with his grandmother on his side.
It wasn't all serious and this drama does manage to sprinkle some comedy here and there to take a load off the seriousness of a few scenes. As of now Tae Hee is finding himself oddly attracted to Sara, he may be very smart, but he can't escape these kinds of feelings no matter how much logic he tries to throw into it. Case in point: The infamous yoga scene. When Sara is doing yoga, he can't help but get hot and bothered by it, so noticeable that Sara jokes that he's having dirty thoughts. It may be funny, but is setting us for the eventual moment when he won't be able to control himself around her anymore, now we wait for Sara to start having similar thoughts about him. However, before moving on with each other they both must move on from their own past loves. So the question will be: When will Tae Hee take his blinders off and realize that Chae Yeon isn't the innocent girl he's been trying to marry for years and is in fact a conniving and manipulative woman who seemingly uses people as she goes along? I know some wanted to see Sara lure Kang Joon back then dump him, but him marrying Chae Yeon will put aside any thoughts of the main OTP not being together in the end. This will force Tae Hee to take a hard look at Chae Yeon and see her for who she truly is, Sara has already done so and now is determined more than ever.
