My Thoughts: Goddess of Fire, Jung Yi

This drama will potray the live of Yoo Jung, also known as Jung Yi (Moon Geun Young), the first female potter in the Joseon Dynasty. After she was kidnapped to Japan during a war, she demonstrated the superiority of Joseon potters in Japan.

This drama also depicts the story of Prince Gwang Hae (Lee Sang Yoon), a sad prince whose life was like a wild storm. He had to let go of Jung Yi no matter how deep his love. He will go through a lonely struggle because he could not put out a flame in his heart toward a woman he loved.(koreandrama.org)

I was looking for another sageuk, but have been extremely picky on the ones I wanted to watch. I never picked up Jang Ok Jung, Lve in Love nor did I watch Gu Family Book, even though I really wanted to. I guess I give myself a limit on the number of dramas I watch at a time, usually kept at 3 but no more than 4. I was trying to figure out what I should watch right now, Goddess of Fire got my attention more than the other new ones. I'm just not into revenge melos right now, too depressing. On to my mini review of the first two episodes.
The set up so far is nice, we got a good chunk of episode 1 dealing with Yoo Eul Dam's back story and how his rivalry(I say one sided) with Kang Chun plus Jung's birth. I am glad that we get six episodes of the child actors to show her childhood instead of one episode that rushes things. We already see a potential love triangle and once again one sided rivalry with Jung and her friend Hwa Ryung who has a crush on Kim Tae Do, but thinks he won't make a move because of Jung who is like a sister to him. We can already see who's evil and who is just naive to everything around them. Prince Im Hae, who was the firstborn but we can see why his father passes him up with important duties and instead assigns them to Kwang Hae, who is the second born. Im Hae is very irrational with his decisions and has a terrible temper. Then we have another son who's mother is desperate to have him become Crown Prince aka the next in line to be king, Lady In Bin Kim, who I am guessing isn't exactly queen but she's got enough power.
So far I am enjoying how things are flowing and we see Jung's obvious faults and her innocence plus not knowing who her true father is, Eul Dam isn't it but he's raised her like his own since she was born. So far, she hasn't exactly shown any great pottery skills, she'd much rather go hunting with Tae Do. Nothing exciting happens until she falls into a hole with Kwang Hae then she spends time hiding from him since she left him inside and ran off after knocking him unconscious.
So far, I am liking this series and I really don't like long dramas, but 32 episodes isn't bad at all. I really do enjoy watching child actors in dramas, sometimes they're more interesting than their adult counterparts. I am so happy they're giving us a good look at Jung Yi's story so her adulthood will make more sense. I cannot wait until we see her make something for real because she's not very good at it from what we see. I also am excited to see how her love story with Prince Kwang Hae will unfold since they are both real people in Korean history.
Sorry this isn't as detailed as my previous drama reviews, I suddenly have writer's block and can't think of anything interesting to say anymore. Maybe I'm tired from watching dramas so late. You have a general idea about what's going on so far and I recommend this one.

What dramas are you watching right now?
