T-Drama Review: When I See You Again Episode 17

Yan Ze was a busy body this episode and while he was everywhere spilling secrets to get CEO Luna alone, he unknowingly dug himself deeper into his feelings for Ya En. Then An Xi finds out a major secret that she's been waiting for, but it didn't go as she imagined.

Let's start with Yan Ze since he seemed to be everywhere and most conflicts are somehow his doing. For example, him telling Yong Qing the truth behind her ex leaving her. It was done to cause Yong Qing to leave Luna's side and it was for cruel intentions, but at the same time she needed to know. Her current state was due to her godmother's meddling in her relationship and making her think that anyone can be bought. It's made Yong Qing a greedy and empty person, she's unhappy all the time and gets upset when something doesn't go her way. So while it was wrong of Yan Ze to use her as a pawn in his game, she needed to know what really happened with her boyfriend so she could finally move on and see who Luna really was. Telling Yong Qing the truth is part of his plan to make his boss's world crumble, he rushed his plans due to her breast cancer diagnosis why else would he place blame on You Qian? He's separating anyone she mildly trusted and confided in, he wants to be that one person she comes to and take the rug from beneath her feet. While he was scheming all episode, he showed some vulnerability when he spoke with Ya En by admitting to what he did and showing some signs of guilt by hurting his sister. He then showed more of himself by telling her why he did it and then asking her to always choose him, Yan Ze has always come second or last to most people in his life. Looking at his past, his dad left and his mother remarried a rich guy who also didn't care about him so he's lived his life being last on everyone's list. He craves love and attention so he seems to want Ya En to put him first so he can finally feel like someone's main priority. Is he using her? Perhaps in his mind, but his heart is a totally different story. Whether he wants to admit it or not, Ya En is his weakness just as An Xi is You Qian's. Yan Ze's heart somehow always leads him to Ya En and it'll take him a while to truly open his heart to her. She sees the good in him (like An Xi) and her eyes are only for him. While watching episode 16, I had guessed You Qian would be the first to find out about their relationship and I was correct. Now what he'll do with that information, I don't know, but he will assume that Yan Ze is using her although there's really nothing he could benefit from by dating her. So it will be interesting to see if Ya En truly sticks to her promise by making Yan Ze her first priority once he's put in a corner by You Qian.

Oddly, You Qian seems to be in the center of some things within the show even though he's done nothing. Like when Luna decided to "accept" An Xi and You Qian found himself the target of An Xi's anger. Luna is still just as selfish as she was when she chose to omit the fact that she had a child to her job and relocate to New York, she's only seeing things from her side and how she can fit them into her life. Yong Qing is now gone so she's attempting to create another version of herself, that's the only way she's ever going to be pleased anyways. Her version of motherhood is making someone just like her and she's deluded herself into thinking that she can control everyone, this is why she's lonely and has no one up there with her. She only cares about herself and An Xi sees that her vision of what she hoped her mother would be is now shattered. That's part of the reason why she lashed out, but I do hope she comes to understand why You Qian never told her about Luna. He doesn't look down on her and never thought so little of her, he didn't want her to get hurt since her mother never had any intentions of reuniting. Plus it was not his place to tell her when Luna was insistent that she wanted nothing to do with her. The ball was in Luna's court and she chose to leave it there when she spoke to You Qian so it wasn't his responsibility to say anything. Although I do feel for An Xi and I see things from her view, she had such high hopes for her mother being nice and wanting to really be with her yet she was stuck with a selfish CEO who admits to dumping people when she can't control them. I know An Xi will calm down and forgive You Qian for not saying anything, her character has been consistently understanding and level headed when it's needed so I know the writer won't screw it up now. 

I should be mentioning that dream sequence, but that was all sorts of awkward and felt so out of place I'll just skip it.

We didn't get many OTP scenes due to the main conflict of Yan Ze scheming to ruin Ocean and Luna's reputations then adding in An Xi discovering who her mother was, but they've stuck things out so I know they will make it through this. I am also happy Mei Wen has worked things out with Da Fei, she seems to be happier now that she's found her love again. Now we need to find Zhi Lin and Ya Lu someone and we'll be all set.
